And today, it rained…

But enough about the weather. Summer solstice, baby, that’s what you’re looking at – longest day and all that. And boy, has it been a long day…up ’til 3am, up again at 8:30am, likely to be up until 3am or thereabouts again! I think I must have the longest day every day!

The strange thing is, I’ve only been having a schedule like that for a couple of weeks, but my body already seems to have adjusted quite well. I’ve not upped my caffeine intake (maybe I should though!), but as noted previously I do now exercise regularly. I remember back in the day that I could be out until 4am and still be up by 7:30am to go to work. I now work for myself, of course, so I can really start when I want!

I did do one really mad thing once, regarding sleep (deprivation!). My youngest child required a Teletubby – as did every other child in the UK at that time – and the only way to get one was to be first in line outside Toys’r'Us in the morning. I had worked a full week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm, and the delivery was coming Saturday morning. So me and the missus sat outside Toys’r'Us from about 8pm (fourth or fifth in line!) right through until opening time at around 8:30am Saturday morning. It was cold ad exhausting, but we got the Teletubbies in the end. However, I had to be at work for the Saturday shift, 10am until 5pm. As soon as I got home, me and the missus went to sleep and woke up sometime Sunday afternoon!! Good times!

Abel Xavier debuts at LA Galaxy

Being a Boro supporter, this talk of Mr David Beckham joining the LA Galaxy football (yeah, soccer) team is slightly less interesting than the arrival in California of Abel Xavier, the bleached-blond defender who left Teesside at the end of the last Premier League season. Judging by the match report, they quite like him in LA.

The Quest for the Perfect Body

Okay, so I haven’t mentioned this before…but I may as well now. Back in March, I was a confirmed fatty. Standing 6ft tall and weighing 245lbs, none of it muscle. In three months, I’ve trimmed down to 213lbs – that’s a loss of 32lbs. How?

Same as usual, I guess. Willpower and a desire to get something. I think with enough desire and willpower, you can achieve virtually anything. My willpower has enabled me to eat a bit less (certainly not more sensibly – staple diet is still cheeseburgers and pizza), and exercise virtually every day. And how, pray tell, does one make exercise bearable? Easy – don’t concentrate on it. My current strategy is to tape The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and ride the exercise bike while watching it – that’s nearly 30 minutes of exercise and entertainment (exertainment? entercise?) and the entertainment makes you forget about the exercise!

Here’s another tip too – try odourless garlic capsules and apple cider vinegar. Apparently, this bad boy combo breaks up fat within your body and makes it easier to be disposed of. Can’t conclusively say that this has had a major effect, but it doesn’t appear to do any harm either. Suck it and see – your mileage may vary though.
