(Sings) More than a woman…

…more than a woman to me-ee-ee.

So I was thinking. Steady on, you might hurt yourself, says you. Well, says I, that’s as maybe.

What I thunk, was that this is meant to be a goal oriented blog-type thingummy, and I have been treating it as a bit of health-kick site. Which is fine, but it’s not a health-kick site – it’s a site about me. Read the URL. Yeah, me.

So why haven’t I posted anything for a few days? Coz I had nothing health/weight related to say that was of great interest. D’oh!

What I missed was reporting on my lovely experiences with the latest release of Ubuntu, the beta of Windows 7, the inaugeration of Barack Obama, you know – everything else in the world!

So, I will now attempt to rectify this over the next few days, and come up with another couple of goals – I have some stuff in mind.

In fact, here’s one – be more charitable and helpful. The recent Israeli invasion of Gaza has left hundreds of people – many of them women and children – injured and homeless. The BBC has thus far refused to run any sort of promotion of the Disaster Emergency Committee appeal for donations to this cause, for fear of no longer appearing impartial.

Question : If CHILDREN are IN NEED of help, why is this outside the remit of the BBC? It’s not political, it’s not partisan, it’s the lives and needs of real people.

As a licence fee payer, I demand….oh, no, wait. I’m turning in to one of those people that drove Russell Brand from the Big British Castle. Hmmm. Because even though I pay for my portion of the BBC, I don’t control the whole thing. Unfortunately.

In any case, go here to donate. And remember, supporting Palestinian people is not the same as supporting Hamas – in just the same way as donating to Children In Need is not the same as supporting whoever is in office at the time.

Bagel Sauce Butter

Now, listen. I went down to the local McDonald’s the other day – when I say local, I mean “in the same town” – and I WALKED. So don’t start on me – at my weight and walking that distance used about 400 calories, so I DESERVE my quarter pounder! Or something…

Anyhoo, there was a sign up on the counter indicating that the breakfast bagels were now ‘new and improved’. Heard that before! However, they are now being supplied by the New York Bagel Bakery (or similar) who make the bagels you can get in 5-packs at most supermarkets. And they are nice, probably nicer than the old McDonald’s version (didn’t he have a farm?).

But – the breakfast bagel sauce is being discontinued and replaced by butter! On a calorie comparison, I don’t imagine it will make much difference, but I loved the taste! And if it’s anything like the muffins, they’ll forget to put the butter on, making for a very dry bagel experience. Why, McDonald’s, why?!

And I finally understand the thing where folk go in and order a Big Super Mega Burger with Large Fries and….a DIET Coke. Here’s why – if you are counting calories, a regular burger and fries will come to around 650-750 calories, 300 of which is the fries. A regular Coke will add on another 300 calories – a diet Coke/Coke Zero will add on next to nothing. It’s potentially the difference between half a day’s calories and two thirds of a day’s calories!

Of course, you’re still better off with Chicken McNuggets…

Doctor, Doctor…

…can you feel me burning? Or something like that.

No, not a post to do with the new Doctor Who – although that looks interesting. I think he’ll do a good job – come on, no one was sure about David Tennant to begin with, but now he seems to have even surpassed Chris Ecclestone. But now I’m losing my thread…

Nor is it to do with the poorly little ‘un – he’s on the mend.

No – it’s me. I had to go for a quick check up at the doctor’s yesterday, due to the fact that I moved out of the area in 2007 – alledgedly. Even though I didn’t. Ah well…

Anyway, to make a long story slightly longer, they decided they needed to weigh me and take note of my height. I had both measurements taken whilst wearing shoes, and they deducted an ‘appropriate’ amount from my height and weight…too much in my opinion! According to them I am 5’11″ and weigh around 100 kilos. The weight I might accept…but the height…I’m 6 foot, dammit!!

According to their stats, that gives me a BMI of 31.2 – nowhere near where I need or want to be. I will be taking another measurement with no shoes on as soon as I can find someone tall enough to help me. Sorry if I sound overly indignant…it’s because I am!

Weigh in for the week – 228lbs. Up four from last week – said that it had gone too fast, didn’t I? Also, didn’t get so much exercise this week what with looking after ill children. ENOUGH EXCUSES! I will achieve this goal!
