Why I love chiptunes

Because I'm weird.

No, wait!

Growing up as I did with Spectrums and Atari STs being all around, the soundtrack of my youth contained a large amount of computer generated music. I can still recall the theme tunes to games like RoboCop, Out Run, Space Harrier, Monty on the Run, Double Dragon…

These tunes were produced by the soundchips built in to the respective computers, and hearing the same tunes now – whether it be in the original form or remixed/played anew, it still takes me back to the fun times.

Chiptunes are now often associated with cracking or keygen programs, but the truth is they have nothing to do with them – they just happen to be there at the time…and the talent of the people who write these tunes is amazing.

Head over to YouTube now and see what you can find – look up chiptunes or my personal favourite, DubMood.
